How Fantasy Football Works

Our league plays Head-to-Head Fantasy. This means that each week you will face off against another league member (Manager) for the best weekly stats. The Manager with the most points that week wins. The Managers with the most weekly wins will head to the play-offs. The Manager who wins the play offs wins it all.

For Emma: That means each week you want to win, and then do it again the next week, and then again.

Remember: Weekly games usually start on Thursday. Changes to your lineup and roster must be made by 11:59pm on Wednesday nights. Commissioner does not make exceptions, unless you take her kids, and husband, for the entire week.

How The Draft Works

Note: We Draft "offline." No laptops, algorithms, or ChatGPT at the draft.

You’ll want some type of Fantasy Football list with you. This you can get off the internet in advance, or from a magazine, or from a friend/husband. Lists tend to be different from where you source them so don’t assume we all have the same list.

We’ll do the official “pick a number out of a hat” to determine our drafting order. 1-12. We will do a “snake” so we draft 1-12 then 12-1 each round. If you aren’t there to draft, and don’t send a proxy, we will draft for you. Hopefully you like a team full of kickers!

As I mentioned we are old school, so we’ll have a giant board up and stickers with all the players. When it’s your turn you say who you are taking (so everyone else can make judgements on how you totally stole the one they wanted ) and put their name up on the board.

I don’t foresee us needing a time limit rule, but try not to go to the bar during YOUR pick, the waitress can bring out drinks.

By now you have recovered from your draft hangover and are wondering what the heck happens next.

Your team roster will be loaded in the app a few days after our draft (this is based mostly on the Commissioner's hangover). This is where you will go to set your lineup each week. Your Roster is your entire team of acquired players, while Your Lineup refers to the players that are used in active roster positions. Managing your roster and lineup is important for having the best season possible.

You will want to set up your team each week by placing players from your ROSTER into your LINEUP.

Positions

1n our league we play the following positions in your Lineup: 1 quarterback, 2 wide receivers, 2 running backs, 1 tight end, 1 flex player, 1 kicker, and 1 defensive team. You will also have 6 players on your bench. The Yahoo! App is helpful by providing recommendations and telling you what a player's PROJECTED score will be. But the App is rarely correct....

*You also have 2 Injured Reserves (We'll get to that later)

Bye Weeks

Some players have "off" weeks (bye weeks), so you need bench backups to fill in.

Flex Player- The Wildcard

You can play any of the following in this position: a running back, wide receiver, or tight end. Like a surprise guest star.

Defense Role

For this you pick an entire team's defense. The more they STOP the better you score. This is really frustrating when your defense is playing against your top RB.
